Ceramic filters - Active vs. Passive applications- Ceramic filters are used on most outby machines. Passive-type filters can regenerate or burn off accumulated DPM while the machine is operating. For this to occur, however, the exhaust gas temperature must be sufficiently hot. To determine if a passive filter will work on a specific machine, an exhaust gas temperature profile must be taken. This requires a thermocouple and data logging capabilities. Active filters are used where the exhaust is found not to be sufficiently hot for a passive filter to work. This type of ceramic filter is cleaned by manually initiating a cleaning process with the filter taken out of service if necessary. | |
