"Ventilate High Spots"

Printer Friendly Version
Safety and Health are Values!

Tips Drawing When the roof falls high enough in the track entry, methane, being lighter than air, may accumulate. An easy solution is to provide a pipe made of noncombustible material vented to the return. The pipe should be marked with a sign or tag explaining why it is there. The sign should read something like this:

"DO NOT REMOVE - THIS PIPE IS NEEDED TO VENTILATE THE TRACK ENTRY."

The person examining this high spot should, as an added safety precaution, park their vehicle outby in case this pipe has accidentally been removed and methane has accumulated.
