After a designated employee performs an examination, you should additionally "Take 30". Take 30 seconds to "Stop, Scan & Plan" whenever walking into a new location to do a job.
A mine and/or mill is an ever-changing environment. Let's say that you have been performing maintenance on a stationary machine. After shutting down welding/cutting torches, putting your tools back into the bucket, unplugging a drill motor and so forth, you come to the end of your shift. The next day when you return, your work location could have changed. Take a few moments to look around and examine the area for any hazards that you either missed earlier or have been created since you were there last.
If you jump right back into the task you were performing, you may find out that the environment has changed and new, unexpected hazards have developed.
When entering a work area, it may only take you 30 seconds to:
-
Stop,
Scan - The area for new or previously unrecognized hazards, then
Plan - How you need to continue or start your work, based on your observations.
