"Are You Prepared?"

U.S. Department of Labor Mine Emergency Preparedness and Response Initiative
M/NM Stakeholder Meeting

July 30, 2010
MSHA is launching an initiative to improve mine emergency preparedness and response capabilities in MSHA and to encourage improvements in the mining industry. The agency would like to open a productive dialogue among MSHA and stakeholders - industry, labor, state agencies and mine rescue organizations - on the challenges of improving overall mine emergency preparedness and response. We all must work together to ensure that the government, mining industry and rescue teams are fully prepared to respond to mine emergencies.

M/NM Stakeholder Meeting following the National M/NM Mine Rescue Team Contests, July 30, 2010 at the Silver Legacy, Reno, Nevada.

The meeting will be held in Meeting Room Silver Baron 'E’.

Announcing a FREE Workshop!

Proximity Warning Systems
for Mining Equipment

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s Office of Mine Safety and Health Research will host a free one-day workshop to discuss proximity warning and detection systems for mining equipment.

Researchers will present information on the latest technologies, both experimental and commercial, to prevent collisions between mining equipment and other vehicles or personnel, and to prevent remote controlled continuous miner operators from being pinned by the machine they are operating. Presentations will cover technologies suitable for all mining applications, with special emphasis on underground mining. MSHA will provide an update on recent proximity detection activities, and the West Virginia Mine Safety Technology Task Force will report on their efforts to implement proximity detection systems.

The workshop is intended for mine management, mine safety personnel, equipment operators and manufacturers, safety and health professionals and others with an interest in preventing machine-related accidents in the mining industry.
