COAL MINE FATALITY - On January 2, 1995, at 12:40 a.m., a beltman with 14 years mining experience was fatally injured in a powered haulage accident. The victim was part of a work crew in the process of pulling a 400 ft. roll of conveyor belt from the belt winder using a 1/2-inch diameter wire rope connected to a locomotive. The roll of belt became fouled which caused the rope to come loose and strike the victim.

This is the first coal mine fatality in 1995. As of January 2 last year, there had been zero fatalities. This death is the first classified as POWERED HAULAGE in 1995.
