COAL MINE FATALITY - On June 17, 1995, at about 10:15 p.m., a coal car rotary dump operator was fatally injured at the rotary dump. When a loaded 15-ton coal car was rotated to dump the coal, the car uncoupled from the train of loaded coal cars. Utilizing the car haul, the dump operator pulled the remaining 19 loaded cars up a slight grade away from the rotary dump. The dump operator entered the rotary dump to align the coupler of the recently emptied car. The loaded cars drifted back to the rotary dump crushing the operator between the first loaded mine car and the rotary dump frame work.

This is the 19th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of June 17 last year there had been 20 fatalities. This death is the ninth classified as POWERED HAULAGE in 1995.
