COAL MINE FATALITY - On Thursday, August 24, 1995, at about 11:31 a.m., a mobile bridge operator was fatally injured by a large roof fall. A lo-lo belt attendant was also struck by the fall but only slightly injured. The miners had just finished a lunch break near the section tailpiece and were returning to their work stations when a section of roof, 29 feet long by 21 feet wide by 80 inches thick, suddenly fell. The roof fall area had been supported with 6-foot roof bolts. This is the 27th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of August 24 last year there had been 32 fatalities.
