COAL MINE FATALITY - On Thursday, August 24, 1995, at about 11:31 a.m., a mobile bridge operator was fatally injured by a large roof fall. A lo-lo belt attendant was also struck by the fall but only slightly injured. The miners had just finished a lunch break near the section tailpiece and were returning to their work stations when a section of roof, 29 feet long by 21 feet wide by 80 inches thick, suddenly fell. The roof fall area had been supported with 6-foot roof bolts.

This is the 27th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of August 24 last year there had been 32 fatalities. This death is the second classified as ROOF FALL in 1995.
