COAL MINE FATALITY - On Thursday, September 28, a shuttle car operator was fatally injured while riding the mantrip into the mine at the beginning of the shift. The shuttle car operator and seven other miners were being transported into the mine on a sled pulled by a scoop. About eight crosscuts from the surface, one of the sled's runners fouled on a slab of rock on the mine floor. The rock acted as a lever causing the sled to raise into the roof, crushing the victim.

This is the 33rd coal mine fatality in 1995. As of September 28 last year there had been 34 fatalities. This death is the 13th classified as POWERED HAULAGE in 1995.
