COAL MINE FATALITY - On Saturday, December 23, 1995, a continuous mining machine operator was attempting to tighten a hydraulic fitting on the left tail boom elevator jack of the continuous mining machine. The miner was under the elevated boom when the boom fell, resulting in fatal crushing injuries. The boom had not been blocked against motion.

This is the 47th coal mine fatality in 1995. As of December 23, of last year there had been 43 fatalities. This death is the eighth classified as MACHINERY in 1995.
