METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On January 10, 1995, a leadman with 30 years of mining experience was
killed at a clay pit. Due to wet conditions at the dump site, the
employee was spotting the over-the-road tractor trailers dumping on the
stockpile. A truck backing up the ramp to dump a load ran over the
victim. He died from crushing injuries. This is the second fatality
reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining
industries. As of this date in 1994, there was one fatality reported
in these industries. This death is the first fatality classified as
powered haulage this year. There was also one powered haulage fatality
during the same period in 1994.
