METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On March 14, 1995, a quality assurance technician with five years of mining experience was killed at a granite quarry. He was observed driving a water truck speedily down the ramp into the quarry. When he rounded the first curve, the truck overturned. The victim was not wearing his seatbelt. He died from sustained injuries. This is the eleventh fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were also eleven fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the fourth fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There were five powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1994. MSHA is prohibited by congressionally imposed budget restrictions from enforcing the training requirements of 30 CFR Part 48 at this operation. For more information:
