METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On March 17, 1995, a truck driver with four years of mining experience was killed at a limestone quarry. The employee was standing near the stockpile in an area of obstructed view to a second truck driver. As the second driver backed up his truck to the stockpile to be loaded, he struck the victim. The victim died from sustained injuries. This is the twelfth fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were eleven fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the fifth fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There were also five powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1994. MSHA is prohibited by congressionally imposed budget restrictions from enforcing the training requirements of 30 CFR Part 48 at this operation. For more information:
