METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 16, 1995, an equipment operator (contractor employee) was killed at a limestone quarry. The victim was a contract employee. He was operating a dozer in the process of stripping an area to be quarried. Another employee observed the dozer backing up without an operator. When he investigated the incident, he found that the victim had been run over by the dozer. The victim died from crushing injuries. This is the 24th fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were 29 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the fourth fatality classified as machinery this year. There were five machinery fatalities during the same period in 1994. For more information: |
