METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 19, 1995, a contractor project manager with 18 years of mining experience was killed at a granite quarry. He was placing an explosive charge in preparation of taking down an old conveyor system when he lost his balance and fell 150 feet to the quarry floor. This is the 25th fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were 29 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the third fatality classified as slip/fall of person this year. There were two slip/fall of person fatalities during the same period in 1994.
