METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On September 12, 1995, a lineman 1st Class with ten years of mining experience was killed at a phosphate pit. The employee was in the process of connecting the power cable from the slurry pump to the power source when he came in contact with the power source. He died from electrocution. This is the 30th fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were also 30 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the third fatality classified as electrical this year. There was one electrical fatality during the same period in 1994.
