METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On October 3, 1995, a truck driver with 3 months of mining experience was killed at a granite quarry. The employee's haul truck had just been loaded. He started driving forward away from the loading area, and drove the truck through a four foot berm and over the 50 foot highwall. He died from sustained injuries. This is the 35th fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1994, there were 31 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the 12th fatality classified as powered haulage this year. There were also 12 powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1994.
