METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 3, 1995, a ledge man with 20 years of mining experience was killed at a granite quarry. A grout rock that was being hoisted fell striking the ladder on which the victim was working causing him to fall approximately 35 feet. The victim died October 27, 1995 of a heart attack resulting from injuries he sustained in the accident. Questions involving the cause of the heart attack were not resolved until July 11, 1996. This is the 52nd fatality reported in calendar year 1995 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. In 1994, there were 40 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the 11th fatality classified as machinery. There were six machinery fatalities in 1994.
