COAL MINE FATALITY - On Wednesday, September 18, 1996, two roof bolting machine operators were installing roof bolts in a crosscut utilizing a dual boom roof bolting machine. The left side operator was assisting the right side operator as the first two roof bolts were installed. The left side operator was standing inby permanently supported roof holding a roof bolt and resin cartridge while the right side operator drilled the hole for the third bolt. A portion of the roof fell killing the left side operator.

This is the 24th coal mine fatality in 1996. As of September 18, of last year, there had been 32 fatalities. This death is the seventh classified as FALL OF ROOF in 1996.
