METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On September 12, 1996, a timber repairman with 25 years of mining experience was killed at a silver mine. The employee was working to unplug a sand line in the raise when he slipped and fell 250 feet down the raise. He died from sustained injuries. This is the 35th fatality reported in calendar year 1996 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1995, there were 32 fatalities reported in these industries. This death is the fifth fatality classified as slip or fall of person this year. There were four slip or fall of person fatalities during the same period in 1995. For more information: |
