COAL MINE FATALITY - On Friday, September 19, 1997, a truck driver operating a 170 ton haulage truck was traveling down-grade to a preparation plant dump site. The truck began to accelerate and traveled through the dump site, crashed through a dump barrier, and fell into raw coal draw-off area 65 feet below. The truck driver suffered fatal injuries when he was ejected from the truck during the crash.

This is the 24th coal mine fatality in 1997. As of September 19 of last year there had been 24 fatalities. This death is the ninth classified as POWERED HAULAGE in 1997.
