COAL MINE FATALITY - COAL MINE FATALITY - On Friday December 26, 1997, a continuous mining machine operator was tramming the continuous mining machine in the over ten-foot high No. 3 entry toward the face. A twenty-three foot length of the right side rib fell suddenly onto the continuous mining machine operator inflicting fatal injuries.

This is the 30th coal mine fatality in 1997. As of December 26 of last year there had been 39 fatalities. This death is the third classified as FALL OF RIB in 1997.
