METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On January 15, 1997, a lube technician with 13 months of mining experience was killed at a gold mine. The employee was walking along the rib in the area of the mine where equipment was being lubricated and fueled. She was crushed against the rib by a moving 3½ yard loader. This is the third fatality reported in calendar year 1997 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1996, there was one fatality reported in these industries. This is the second fatality classified as powered haulage in 1997. The fatality in 1996 was also classified as powered haulage. For more information: |
