METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On February 3, 1997, a truck driver was killed at a stone quarry. The truck driver had picked up a load of material and was traveling to the mine site. The left front tire slipped off the elevated haul road and the truck slipped into a 5-foot deep pond of water. The cab tipped over and filled with water. This is the eighth fatality reported in calendar year 1997 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1996, there were two fatalities reported in these industries. This is the fourth fatality classified as powered haulage in 1997. There were two powered haulage fatalities during the same period in 1996.
