MSHA - Fatal Alert Bulletin

METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On April 27, 1997, a truck driver (contractor employee) with 30 years of mining experience was killed at a lime plant. The employee parked his truck at the wash platform and climbed on top of the tank trailer to hose it off. A safety belt and line were not used and the victim fell 11 feet to the ground. He died from the sustained head injuries. This is the 28th fatality reported in calendar year 1997 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1996, there were 16 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the third fatality classified as slip/fall of person in 1997. There were no slip/fall of person fatalities during the same period in 1996.
