MSHA - Fatal Alert Bulletin

METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 6, 1997, a contractor truck driver was fatally injured at a clay mill while unloading PVC pipe from a flatbed trailer. When he cut a rope securing the pipe on the trailer, the pipe rolled off and crushed him. This is the 42nd fatality reported in calendar year 1997 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1996, there were 32 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the 3rd fatality classified as handtools in 1997. There was one fatality classified as handtools during the same period in 1996.
