METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On March 13, 2000, a 48-year-old motorman with 24 years mining experience was fatally injured at an underground platinum mine. The victim was walking in front of a string of empty cars that were being pushed into position for loading when he was struck by the lead car. Best Practices
This is the ninth fatality reported in calendar year 2000 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 1999, there were ten fatalities reported in these industries. This is the fifth fatality classified as Powered Haulage in 2000. There were three Powered Haulage fatalities in the same period in 1999. |
