METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 24, 2000, a 41-year-old miner with 18 years mining experience was fatally injured at an underground gold mine shaft development project. The victim stuck his head into the galloway's 4th level work deck bucket well. He was struck by a descending sinking bucket. Best Practices
This is the 34th fatality reported in calendar year 2000 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. (On 8/8/2000, the Fatality Review Committee determined that fatal no. 8 on 2/21/2000 was not chargeable). As of this date in 1999, there were 34 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the first fatality classified as Hoisting in 2000. There were no Hoisting fatalities in the same period in 1999. |
