• Welding in a combined space should be avoided whenever possible
  
  
• Job safety analysis should be done prior to the commencement of work
  
  
• Proper personal protective equipment should be worn in accordance with the job being performed
  
  
• Persons should be properly trained for each task

This is the 36^th fatality reported in calendar year 2000 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. (On 8/8/2000, the Fatality Review Committee determined that fatal no. 8 on 2/21/2000 was not chargeable). As of this date in 1999, there were 34 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the first fatality classified as Electrical in 2000. There was one Electrical fatality in the same period in 1999.
