METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On August 30, 2000, a 36-year-old operator with 5 years mining experience was fatally injured at a sand and gravel operation. The victim was welding inside a crusher when he received a fatal electrical shock. Best Practices
This is the 36th fatality reported in calendar year 2000 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. (On 8/8/2000, the Fatality Review Committee determined that fatal no. 8 on 2/21/2000 was not chargeable). As of this date in 1999, there were 34 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the first fatality classified as Electrical in 2000. There was one Electrical fatality in the same period in 1999. |
