METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On April 25, 2001, a 36-year-old welder (contractor employee) with 36 weeks mining experience was fatally injured at a granite operation. The victim had been working in and around a material bin and was discovered as the bin was being emptied.

This is the 11th fatality reported in calendar year 2001 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2000, there were 14 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the fourth fatality classified as Slip/Fall of Person in 2001. There were two Slip/Fall of Person fatalities in the same period in 2000.
