METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On October 2, 2001, a contract electrician was fatally injured at a sandstone operation. The victim had been installing power lines to an elevated electrical box mounted on the side of a building. As he swung the manlift he was working from away from the building he contacted high voltage power lines that were located above his work area.

This is the 21st fatality reported in calendar year 2001 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2000, there were 37 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the first fatality classified as Electrical in 2001. There was one Electrical fatality in the same period in 2000.
