METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On December 4, 2001, a 23 year-old construction worker with 16 weeks experience was fatally injured at a surface crushed stone operation. The victim was walking on an inclined steel I-beam when he lost his balance and fell about 40 feet.

This is the 28th fatality reported in calendar year 2001 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2000, there were 46 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the fourth fatality classified as Slip/Fall of Person in 2001. There were six Slip/Fall of Person fatalities in the same period in 2000.
