METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On December 17, 2001 a 60 year-old contract maintenance mechanic with 5 years mining experience was fatally injured at a surface crushed stone operation. After parking a service truck, the victim walked between the truck and a generator trailer. The truck rolled forward and pinned the victim against the trailer.

This is the 30th fatality reported in calendar year 2001 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2000, there were 46 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the 16th fatality classified as Powered Haulage in 2001. There were 19 Powered Haulage fatalities in the same period in 2000.
