COAL MINE FATALITY - On Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a 35 year old shuttle car operator with four years mining experience was seriously injured while operating a shuttle car when the shuttle car canopy struck a roof bolt and mine roof. The canopy was dislodged from the shuttle car and struck the victim in the head. The victim died of injuries on May 27, 2007. ![]() Best Practices
This was the 28th fatal accident recorded in the coal mining industry during calendar year 2002. As of the accident date in 2001, there were nine fatalities reported in the coal mining industry - two of which were classified as Powered Haulage. As of the accident date in 2002, three earlier fatalities were classified as Powered Haulage.
