METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On July 30, 2005, a 23-year old contractor equipment operator, with 20 months mining experience, was fatally injured at a surface gold mine. The victim was operating a water truck that left the roadway and climbed the berm, causing it to overturn and land back on the haul road. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the cab of the truck. ![]()

This is the 19th fatality reported in calendar year 2005 in Metal and Nonmetal mining. As of this date in 2004, there were 15 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the 8th fatality classified as Powered Haulage in 2005. There were 2 Powered Haulage fatalities in the same period in 2004.
