COAL MINE FATALITY - On Friday July 7, 2006, at approximately 8:05 a.m., a 35-year old Laborer/Millwright with 3 years mining experience was fatally injured while operating a man-lift during construction of a preparation plant. While repositioning the man-lift, the operator was pinned between an elevated metal cable tray and the handrail over the control panel of the platform. ![]()
This is the 34th fatality reported during calendar year 2006 in the coal mining industry. As of this date in 2005, there were nine fatalities reported in coal mining. This is the third fatality classified as Machinery in 2006. There were no Machinery fatalities at this time in 2005.
