COAL MINE FATALITY - On Sunday July 30, 2006, a 30-year old contractor with 10 years of welding experience was fatally injured when an inflated truck tire and wheel assembly exploded. The victim was performing welding and grinding on the wheel when the accident occurred. The victim had been employed by the trucking contractor for 23 days. ![]()
This is the 37th fatality reported during calendar year 2006 in the coal mining industry. As of this date in 2005, there were ten fatalities reported in coal mining. This is the first fatality classified as Exploding Vessel under Pressure in 2006. At this time in 2005, there were no fatalities in this classification.
