METAL/NONMETAL MINE FATALITY - On September 1, 2008, a 67 year-old contractor consultant with 46 years experience was fatally injured at a copper mine. The victim had been instructing persons making a belt splice. He fell through a 4-foot by 6-foot opening 28 feet to the floor below. ![]() Best Practices
This is the 15th fatality reported in calendar year 2008 in the metal and nonmetal mining industries. As of this date in 2007, there were 23 fatalities reported in these industries. This is the 3rd Fall of Person fatality in 2008. There were 3 Fall of Person fatalities in the same period in 2007.
