As the flu season approaches, many are increasingly concerned about H1N1 in the workplace. MSHA has assembled a collection of resources for the mining community to help miners, supervisors, operators and family members learn about H1N1 influenza and precautions to take in the workplace and at home to prevent the spread of infection. MSHA, in consultation with Centers for Disease Control (CDC)/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), offers the following guidance in response to mining-specific concerns regarding the requirements for quarterly self-contained self-rescuer (SCSR) training (30 CFR 75.1504(b)) and its potential for disease transmission, and precautions to reduce H1N1 influenza outbreaks, especially from exposure to sick personnel in confined spaces like mantrips, mine elevator, refuge chambers, etc.
