Mine rescue training contest season is in full swing, and Assistant Secretary Main attended the Pennsylvania State Mine Rescue, Bench and Preshift Contest in Carmichaels, PA on August 21, and the Kentucky State Mine Rescue, Bench, Preshift and First Aid Contests in Lexington, KY on August 22. At both events he met with MSHA staff, operators, state officials, trainers and mine rescue teams. Congratulations to the participants and the winners, and to everyone whose hard work makes these critical training events run smoothly.

|During his meetings in Kentucky, Assistant Secretary Main had the opportunity to attend the mine rescue contest and meet with MSHA's District Managers and Assistant District Managers for D7, D8, and D10. He also met had the chance to visit with and thank the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Pat Malloy, for his hard work and support of MSHA. Mr. Malloy is retiring.
