Material handling is responsible for a large number of injuries in surface mining, mills, and plants. The problem is not unique to mining operations. Material handling is a safety concern in most industries. In fact, material handling is often considered to be the most serious safety problem in the nation. Many of the safety practices covered in this course can be applied to off-the-job safety as well.
