Size it up / test the weight.
You can test weight by lifting one end. Another way to determine if you can lift it without assistance is to try pushing the object with your foot or hand. There are many variables involving the person, object, and environment that determine how much weight can be lifted safely. And even lightweight objects that are large in size, or cumbersome, may best be handled with assistance. If there is any doubt, or if the task feels uncomfortable or unnatural, obtain the necessary help.
Plan your route.
Be sure you have a clear pathway. Remove obstructions such as discarded wrapping materials. To turn directions use your feet to pivot. Do not twist!NOTE: Non-MSHA links are not meant to imply enforceability by MSHA. They are for informational and educational purposes only.
