Personal Protective Equipment
More miners are injured or killed each year than you might imagine due to failure to wear personal protective equipment.

Hello, I'm Bob Friend with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

Are you one of those miners who ignore personal protective equipment? Do you think its more nuisance than assistance? Maybe you didn't know that over a recent three year period, more than 25% of 200 accident victims died because of failure to wear personal protective equipment.

Equipment such as safety glasses, rubber gloves, steel-toed shoes, harnesses, and life jackets should be worn whenever a hazard exists. Hard hats should be worn at all times on mine property. Rubber gloves should always be used when troubleshooting electrical equipment.

Life jackets should always be used at mining operations near bodies of water. And harnesses or safety lines should always be used where there is a hazard of slipping or falling from a high elevation.

Therefore, I say to all miners, "Let's get it on!" Use all of your personal protective equipment while in the mining workplace.

    Thank you for listening.
