Prevent Black Lung
All coal miners know the destructive impact of black lung disease. However, there are ways to prevent incurring this awful respiratory ailment.

Hello, I'm Bob Friend with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

All coal miners have a right to work in an underground environment that is free of excessive levels of respirable coal mine dust.

You have the right to receive training on mine health hazards, including proper dust controls and the respirable dust sampling program. You also have the right to review the results of your mine operator's dust samples.

You have the right to receive NIOSH-approved respirators to use when dust levels in your workplace exceed the legal limit.

And, more importantly, you have the right to request an MSHA inspection if you believe the dust concentrations in your mine are excessive.

Exercise all of your rights. Let's control the dust and prevent black lung.

    Thank you for listening.
