MEDIA ADVISORY

The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), along with representatives from state, local and industry organizations, will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, September 19, in Delta, Pa., to discuss the disturbing rise in quarry drownings across the country, specifically at the nearby Funkhouser Quarry, the site of at least eight deaths over the past 15 years.

The meeting, which begins at 10 a.m., will be held at the Delta Cardiff Fire Station, 504 Main St., Delta.

Two years ago, MSHA launched a national public awareness program called "Stay Out–Stay Alive" in an effort to keep children from playing on active and abandoned mine properties.

For further information or directions, contact Amy Louviere at (703) 235-1452.
