WASHINGTON-Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao will be speaking at the Mine Safety and Health Administration's National Mine Health and Safety Academy's 25th anniversary celebration to be held Tuesday, August 14, 2001, in Beckley, West Virginia.
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-W. Va.) and Congressman Nick J. Rahall II (D-W. Va.) will attend the ceremony along with Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-W. Va.) who will deliver the keynote address.
As part of the celebration, numerous demonstrations will be performed throughout the day, including a mock mine emergency and rescue operation, fire-fighting techniques and a methane explosion.
