Top Federal Mine Safety Official to Tour Powell Mountain's Limestone Mine
EVARTS, Ky. - Dave D. Lauriski, assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health, will visit the Powell Mountain Coal Co. Inc. Limestone Mine on Tuesday, April 6, in Evarts, Ky. Lauriski will meet with mine employees at 8 a.m. at the St. Charles Elementary School in St. Charles, Va. The underground mine tour will follow at 10 a.m.
Powell Mountain Coal Co. won a prestigious Sentinels of Safety award in 2002 for one of its mines, where employees worked 132,142 hours without an accident or fatality.
