Mine Rescue Teams to Compete in Mock Mine Emergency
NEW IBERIA, La. - Dave D. Lauriski, assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health, will oversee the Southern Regional Mine Rescue Contest on Friday, April 30, in New Iberia, La. The contest, hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration, runs from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the SugArena Acadiana Fairgrounds.
Mine rescue competitions are simulated mine emergency drills designed to test the knowledge of highly trained teams of miners who may need to respond to a real mine emergency. Sixteen rescue teams from the United States, including six from Louisiana mines, will participate in the contest.
