National Mine Public Safety Effort Kicks Off in Denver
"Stay Out-Stay Alive" Campaign Focuses on Children
DENVER - On Tuesday, April 12, the U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), along with the Bureau of Land Management and National Crime Prevention Council, will kick off the 2005 "Stay Out-Stay Alive" national public awareness campaign at Gust Elementary School in Denver.
"Stay Out-Stay Alive" is a nationwide public safety effort sponsored by MSHA and aimed at educating and warning children about the dangers of playing on mine property. Each year, dozens of people are injured or killed while involved in recreational pursuits at active and abandoned mine sites. Last May, four amateur rock climbers were rescued after spending 10 hours lost inside an abandoned mine near Durango.
