"We want good mine safety and health professionals who will help rid the U.S. mining industry of hazards that threaten working miners," said David G. Dye, deputy assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health. "Individuals dedicated to MSHA's mission, and those who want to end accidental injuries and fatalities in our nation's mines, are who we want to hire."
MSHA is recruiting inspectors for duty stations in Denver; Salt Lake City; Helena, Mont.; Green River, Wyo.; Mesa, Ariz.; Topeka, Kan.; Rapid City, S.D.; Birmingham and Bessemer, Ala.; and Mount Hope, Summerville, Pineville, Mount Carbon, Madison and Logan, W.Va.
Individuals interested in entry-level mine inspector positions are advised to preregister for the screenings by applying on-line for specific inspector positions advertised at www.msha.gov. MSHA is the federal agency charged with inspecting mining operations nationwide for adherence to regulations that protect the safety and health of working miners.
Those unable to preregister for the screenings before the closing dates may be tested and screened at these locations as a walk-in candidate, subject to space availability. Screening attendees must bring a completed resume and photo identification. Check the MSHA Web site at www.msha.gov to confirm the status of the screenings before traveling to the site.
Applicants will be notified of test results, and selected candidates will participate in a two-year formal training program. Applicants must be able to efficiently perform arduous duties. Selected applicants at the GS-9 level will receive a starting salary of approximately $40,000 annually.
