Mine Safety Agency to Hold Public Hearing in Lakewood
LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will hold a public hearing on the Emergency Temporary Standard for Mine Evacuation
April 24 at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel, 360 Union Boulevard, in Lakewood. The standard was issued March 9 to improve protection of miners during and after underground coal mine accidents and evacuations.
MSHA's emergency temporary standard is aimed at strengthening mine safety practices in four key areas: training, accident notification requirements for mine operators, self-contained self-rescue devices and lifelines. This is only the third time since 1978 that MSHA has pursued an emergency temporary standard.
